West Wing

Is an awesome show. I really like Leo Mcgarry, just because he dresses so well! Apparently it reflects the White House quite well. I'm just on the bit where Zoey got captured. I really, really hope she doesn't die, even though I never really liked her in the show.

Sharon Stone

I can't believe anyone would say anything so insensitive in the light of such a terrible disaster. I've been wanting to write about it here for a long time now, but haven't because I couldn't express how badly I feel for the victims and their families. To blame the fact on 'karma' is just ridiculous. Has she been there? Has she seen the people who have lost children, parents, relatives, friends? Can she blame them on Tibet? I love the way she uses the word 'nice' when she's talking. She just completely trivializes the event by making it sound like two kids fighting, and how China wasn't 'nice' to the Dalai Lama, who is her 'friend.' China isn't just one, big blob of faceless robots- everyone has different opinions, and many people disagree with the way the government handled Tibet. Don't say that 63,000

Karaoke and ballroom dancing!

Just spent the day singing karaoke and ballroom dancing with my friends. It's a good combination because although I'm the worst singer, I'm the best dancer so it sort of evens out. So it's all good :) Tommorrow- revision!

obsessive Sarkosis?

France's obsession for Sarkozy is turning into a mental illness?

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/24/world/europe/24france.html

What do you think of Carla Bruni? Personally, my opinion's mixed- although she does have a rather racy past, I think she'll make a good first lady. She's educated, attractive, and will make a good representative. Besides, she's no worse than Sarkozy's ex-wife! Why is France always the place for these torrent love affairs?

Japan

How big is Japan nowadays? Is it just me, or is there a massive trend of loving all things Japan nowadays? Anyway, my interest in Japan has been much revived recently and I've been thinking about all the anime I used to watch and I was wondering, now that I have a week before my exams start, anyone have any recommendations? I've watched Inuyasha, Full Moon wo Sagashite, Chobits, He is My Master and Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh. (if they count lol) I really like lolicons, ecchi, harem or reverse harem and exotic girlfriend types (see wikipedia), but I don't want to have to pay any money for them so anyone know of any I can watch on youtube or something? I don't have tv :( Anyways, just tell me if you have any ideas and I'd be very grateful!

Shoes

Just bought a new pair of Robert Clergerie shoes for $40 today, marked down from, if I can remember correctly, $429. Normally I don't spend nearly as much on shoes, usually around $10, so this is my big spending for the year. What I love so much about these shoes is how comfortable they are and how useful they are! Summer or winter, casual or formal, it looks like I'll be using these for a while! :P

Exams

Just finished my Maths (non-calculator) and RE today. PHEW, what a relief! Fortunately neither were as hard as I thought they were going to be, and I thought I did quite well except for one question in maths that is really bugging me. Tommorrow I have English Lit. and ICT, both I should do well in- English at least an A, ICT aiming for a C but coursework will bring it up to an A- and then German and Science on Friday before half term. :( Well, at least it'll all be over soon...

Henry Matisse

I love him. I think he's a fabulous artist. Every day on Google I get a new picture for art of the day, and I think his paintings are just wonderful. The colours are very vivid and striking, but despite this they all blend in together very fluidly. I especially like that the settings of his paintings are very realistic, because to me it seems like he's drawing normal life, just with a more exciting viewpoint. Makes you think about your attitude to life, doesn't it? :)

So tired...

Just did my RE exam today. Rather worried about it, I hope I got an A. I want all As and A*s in my GCSEs! Trying to revise maths but failing miserably...I hate simultaneous equations! My maths exam is on Monday, so I've five days to get my maths grade up to an A*. But I will do it! I've also got another RE exam on Monday which I need to revise for, English Lit. and ICT on Tuesday and Science (which also needs to be an A*) and German (which needs to be a B/A) on Thursday. I am soooo overworked...I don't know how I'm going to manage. I know I'll get the grades I need to get into Sixth Form because, like I said, I've got my conditional offer, it's only my own personal ambition and raising my family's face which makes me want straight As/A*s. Now...back to revision! :D

Cheongsams

I found the pics of my relatives in cheongsams. Here's the pic:

Don't they just look stunning? I only own two cheongsams, and one of them (grr!) doesn't fit anymore. I think it would be lovely to still dress like this. It's hot enough now, so maybe if I'm feeling daring I'll wear my summer one into town! Next time I go to HK I'll probably buy some more. Fortunately, I know a shop that's relatively inexpensive in Mong Kok so I don't have to get them custom made. Meanwhile, I'm going to watch In the Mood for Love again later- ever since I posted my last comment, I've been thinking about it all day!

In the Mood for Love...

...is one of my favourite films. The chemistry between Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung is great! I love all Wong Kar-wai's films, but In the Mood for Love is my favourite just because of the cheongsams. The detail he puts into his films are amazing! Everything about In the Mood for Love is just exquisite. Although I love HK fashion, I think that period of style is just beautiful. Even though modern Chinese fashion, and even modern style of life is brilliant, I think that Wong Kar-wai captures the dignity and splendour of that period just magnificently. It's interesting, because just recently I was looking through some pictures of my relatives when they were younger in suits and cheongsams. They look absolutely stunning. I wish that we could still dress like that now, but I suppose part of the beauty of In the Mood for Love is how it captures an era now lost to us so splendidly...

Marks on my GCSES

I got an A/A*! I'm so excited, with my coursework (that is also an A) I've got an A overall. That's half my GCSE for French. I've got exactly the same so German, so it looks like I'm on a roll! Now I've got all my other exams in a few weeks, and hopefully I will get similar marks on those. So far, everything is doing great! Now, back to revision...

Sixth Form

I just got my conditional offer into the sixth form I want! I'll be going to the third best sixth form in England- be happy for me! Now I just have to get the GCSEs, but I think I will. I have my French oral tommorrow, which I'm feeling quite nervous about, so wish me luck! Tonight I'll just revise a lot and listen to French pop music in the hopes of getting a French accent by tommorrow. It's first thing tommorrow, and although I haven't memorised as well as I did my German, I just want to get an A, so if I just act confident and improvise a little I should do okay. Wish me luck! :D

Surrealism

I've been researching Surrealist artisits recently, and my two favourites so far are Dali and Max Ernst. I especially like Dali's 'Dream caused by the flight of a bee around a pomegranate one second before waking' and 'the face of war' and Max Ernst's work 'L'Ange du foyer ou Le Triomphe du surréalisme.' I think Surrealism is great because it is so...surreal. It's amazing that these artists thought about these things! Although I haven't looked into any other types of art yet, from what I've seen I think I prefer this type to more realistic types just because it's more interesting to look at and evaluate.

Book Review

I just finished Amy Tan's, 'The One Hundred Secret Senses' a few days ago. Firstly, I've never read an Amy Tan book that I haven't liked, and 'The One Hundred Secret Senses' was, as expected, an excellent book. As usual, it was interestingly and descriptively written. I love the way she is always able to write so eloquently about Chinese culture, and it is fascinating to see her character struggle with their Chinese heritage. Although it was not my favourite book, I especially enjoyed the ending and how she fused the parallel storylines together. It is no wonder that so many Chinese Americans identify with her. In conclusion, I recommend this book very highly indeed!

Being Interesting...

Well, after a long time of not posting, I'm back! Anyways, after long deliberation I've decided that I'm not a very interesting person- in my opinion, anyway. So, I've been wondering, what makes a person interesting? I've decided to become more well-rounded, and for me that means learning about the arts, literature, history, etc..., which will be a both an educational and fun experience. I've also decided to speak better, as now I'm much too colloquial and don't speak anywhere near as well as I write in this blog, and use a wider range of vocabulary. I'm also going to try posting more often so I can sort out my thoughts and get fitter! So, actually, this is really more like a late New Year's resolution...
